Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich source code now available for download
Google has released source code for its latest version of the Android mobile operating system, Android 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’.
Android 4.0 source code is now available for download from the Android Open-Source Project (ASOP) git servers.
The most important aspect of the release is that many handset manufacturers can able to develop and incorporate the new software as well as roll out updates to previous creation phones if they are so disposed.
Also, Android 4.0 has designed and developed for tablets and Smartphone, so developers can access to the latest branch of the OS which combine Smartphone and tablet based UI elements from Android 2.x and 3.x similarly.
Google didn’t release open source code for Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) until it has worked with Smartphone as well as tablets respectively while the source code for Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be available soon. But still no official release date or price available for the Galaxy Nexus.
“This release includes the full history of the Android source code tree, which naturally includes all the source code for the Honeycomb releases,” said software engineer Jean-Baptiste Queru, in a post on the Android Google Group.
“However, since Honeycomb was a little incomplete, we want everyone to focus on Ice Cream Sandwich.”
